Q&A with Savannah Blanc

Give us a quick intro…

Hey, I’m Savannah!  I’m a bit of a kiwi adventurer; I love hiking, water sports and spontaneous adventures.

Tell us about your career…

Well growing up surrounded by nature I was drawn to a career in Geology.  Sometimes I’m in the office, but my key role is mapping remote parts of our beautiful country.  We live in field camps for weeks at a time and often there’s only one or two women.  As the Assistant Field Geologist on site, I ensure the team has everything required to be safe and get the job done, I oversee the information gathering and report the progress to the Geologist.

What keeps you awake at night…

Well work can be challenging at times, but I know my friends and boyfriend are only a phone call away when I need them.  Steve, my boyfriend is a Geologist too, so he knows what site is like.  If the guys dig at me too much I just call Steve… I don’t know how he does it but he just melts my worries; he always gets me giggling with his kooky sense of humour and his unusual but thought provoking theories.

But the thing that I’m really passionate about is the way we use our natural resources!  They are finite and we need to protect our beautiful country!  Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle people!!

What’s your favourite wine and when do you typically drink it…

Well I love a glass at the end of a long hot day out on site – there’s nothing better than a well-chilled Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.  When the girls and I get together we always have a glass or two, and conversation just flows!

Describe your style…

Well, at work I rock steel caps, a hard hat and high-vis, but when I’m at home I like to indulge my girly side.  I love to dress up in designer dresses and statement heels!  My friends laugh at me for my “look how much I saved” shopping sprees!
